Rabbi Abba

Abba – literally, “father” or “My Father” – is an honorary title given to several tannaim. Rabbi Abba could refer to several scholars, in particular: a Babylonian amora who was a student of Shmuel; “Our Teacher in the Land of Israel”, a Palestinian amora of in the third and fourth centuries CE, who was a student of Rav Huna;  the brother of Rabban Gamaliel (Gamaliel II) who was a contemporary of Rabban Yoḥanan ben Zakkai.
