Amida

The core prayer in the prayer service; also known as Shemoneh Esreh. The name derives from the eighteen blessings that originally constituted this prayer. After the destruction of the Temple, a nineteenth blessing was added. This prayer must be recited silently, while standing with one’s feet together. During congregational prayer in all but the evening service, after the congregation has recited the Amida silently, the prayer leader repeats the prayer aloud.
