Hanukkah

An annual celebration, begining on 25 Kislev, commemorating the re-dedication of the Second Temple after the Maccabees successfully revolted against the Hellenic (Macedonian) empire, who mandated worship of their Pantheon. The holiday lasts eight days and nights, each marked by the ritual lighting of a candle in the hanukia – a special menorah used just for this occasion.
