Rabbi Yosei HaGelili

1st century tanna who studied at Yavneh and was a contemporary of Rabbi Akiva. He was famed for his piousness, and for being a difficult man. As his name shows, he was Galilean, and thus of more humble origins according to the prejudices of the time. Despite his disagreeable nature and argumentativeness, he was considered quite the halakhic scholar.
