Shimon ben Shetaḥ

 who lived during the reign of Alexander Yannai. He was the brother of Alexander’s wife and therefore enjoyed eminent status and a certain immunity from the actions of the king. As one of the most vociferous opponents of the Sadducees, he was constantly at loggerheads with Alexander.His daring attempt to force the monarch to accept the authority of the failed and contributed to the heightening of tension among the people.
