Tanna deVei Eliyahu

תנא דבי אליהו – A work of mishnaic teaching in two parts: Seder Eliyahu Rabba, (“the earlier portion”) with 31 chapters and Seder Eliyahu Zuṭa (“the later portion”), with 15 chapters. The entire book is in Hebrew, and it includes interpretations of biblical verses, stories of Jewish history over the generations, and first-person accounts that are presented as Eliyahu’s own words.

According to the Gemara in Massekhet Ketubotdaf 106, we find many references in the Talmud to Eliyahu studying with the Talmudic sages. A great many quotes in the Talmud begin, “Tanna deVei Eliyahu…”
