Rabbi Yehuda ben Beteira

Tanna from the period before the fall of the Temple and likely a contemporary of Rabbi Akiva. His name speaks to his origins in the fortress city of that name – also spelled Bathrya – in what is present-day Syria. It is a matter of some debate whether Yehudah (Judah) of Beteira is actually the same man as Yeshua (Joshua) of Bathyra.
