יוֹסֵף – Joseph, eleventh son of Jacob son of Isaac son of Abraham. Bereshit tells us of Jacob’s love for the “son of his old age” by his favorite wife Rachel. Jacob’s favor made his other sons jealous of Joseph, so they sold him into slavery in Egypt. Joseph overcame this hardship and rose to be the second most powerful man in Egypt, after Pharaoh.
